Agotime-Ziope: Over 900 constituents benefits from MP’s free eye screening

A total of nine hundred and sixty six (966) individuals in the Agortime-Ziofe district of the Volta region has benefited from the MP’s free eyes screening exercise in the constituency.

The exercise was initiated and financed by the Member of Parliament of the area Hon. Charles Agbeve and supported by the Life Wells Vision, aimed at identifying and applying an appropriate treatment to the people with sight problem in the constituency.

The four-day exercise, covered the two traditional communities with its sub communities.

The exercise started in Ziofe and ended at Agortime Agohome from 6th to 9th September, 2021.

In the end, a total of nine hundred and sixty six (966) people screened, eight hundred and fourty seven (847) were put on medications whiles two hundred and ninety six (296) were given reading and sight glasses accordingly, while some other one hundred and twenty-eight (128) were booked for surgery at the Kpetoe Community Clinic between 23rd and 25th September, 2021.

“We initially budgeted for just about two hundred people but what we have witnessed, I have to review the earlier budget due to the number of people recorded on the first and the second day,” the MP stated.

This is the second time the MP, Hon. Charles Agbeve who is also a member of Parliamentary Health Committee has staged such an exercise in his constituency.

Earlier, some two hundred (200) women undergone screening for cervical cancer screening of which ten (10) was diagnosed and currently on treatment.

He therefore promised to conduct such health screenings each year to help his constituents

Meanwhile, the MP has expressed worry indicating the number of school children identified to be suffering from eye problems.

“I was a bit disturbed to see a child as low as one year brought to be screen, How? so I told myself It would become very necessary to take the eye screening exercise to our schools to periodically check the pupil’s eyes because if parents couldn’t identify that early it develop to become the challenge the children are going through now. I can’t really tell how this pupils are living in class, I wonder if teachers are aware,” he lamented

He therefore, called on parents to pay much attention to their wards eyes by going to the clinic for a regular eye checkups.

The MP believes there is a need to intensify education in the constituency to keep the people on alert.
