Paulinho struck twice as Sporting CP collected three points at Belenenses in the Portuguese Liga on 2 February. Pedro Porro and Pablo Sarabia were also on target as Rúben Amorim’s side claimed a comfortable 4-1 victory. Second in the league, they’re six points off leaders Porto.

Full-back João Cancelo has signed a two-year extension to his Manchester City contract, keeping him at the club until 2027. The 27-year-old said: “I have so much I want to achieve before my career ends, and Manchester City offers me the best chance of fulfilling my ambitions.”

Sporting CP came from behind again to beat Benfica 2-1 and win the Portuguese League Cup final on 29 January. Everton struck in the first half but Rúben Amorim’s men overturned the deficit after the break thanks to Gonçalo Inácio and Pablo Sarabia.

Sporting will meet Benfica in the Portuguese League Cup final in Leiria after overcoming ten-man Santa Clara 2-1 in the semi-final on Wednesday 26 January. The Lions conceded after 32 minutes, but an own goal made it 1-1 by the break, and Pablo Sarabia scored the winner from the spot following Rui Costa’s dismissal.
