Just a few days removed from their exhilarating 2-2 Premier League draw, the top two sides in England meet once again in a monumental FA Cup semi-final clash as Manchester City face Liverpool. One goal over 180 minutes of their UEFA Champions League (UCL) quarter-final with Atlético Madrid was all it took for treble-chasing City to advance in midweek, whilst that prior H2H draw also leaves them atop the Premier League table.

City have reached this stage of the FA Cup in four of the last five seasons, only advancing once though, and losing their last two FA Cup semi-finals ‘to nil’. But manager Pep Guardiola has his team on a ten-game undefeated streak (W6, D4), keeping seven clean sheets in the process, and having won their last two meetings with Liverpool at Wembley (both on penalties), confidence should be sky high in the ‘Sky Blues’ camp.

Liverpool rested key players for their UCL tie with Benfica, taking the scenic route in eventually winning 6-4 on aggregate. Having already claimed the EFL Cup this season, Liverpool’s hunt for a famous quadruple continues with their first FA Cup semi-final appearance since the 2014/15 season, which saw them fail to progress for only the second time in their last ten appearances at this stage.

The ‘Reds’ have been one of the most inform teams anywhere this calendar year, losing only once across 23 outings (W18, D4), with 13 of those wins coming by 2+ goals. That fine form will be needed again here, as Wembley hasn’t been a kind venue for Liverpool lately, with the Merseysiders winning just two of their last eight visits here. The last three of those all went to penalty shootouts!

Players to watch: City’s Riyad Mahrez has scored four goals in the last three rounds of this season’s FA Cup, all of which have come after half-time, whilst Sadio Mané has six goal contributions in 14 H2Hs since moving to Liverpool (G5, A1).

Hot stat: City have scored four goals between the 46th and 60th minute in the FA Cup this season.
